Administering emergency numbers

Prolog information
Configure the PHNEMERGNUM parameter in the Settings file or in Session Manager to assign a default emergency number. The phone dials this number when a user presses the Emerg soft key on the Login screen, the Phone screen, or the Yes soft key on an Emergency Calling pop-up screen. The phone dials the emergency number even if it is locked or the user is not logged in.
The local proxy routes the emergency calls from the phone to the local emergency number. When you configure PHNEMERGNUM, the Emerg soft key overrides the SPEAKERSTAT parameter setting or the user-selected audio path. The Speakerphone becomes the default path when the user presses the Emerg soft key, even if you disable the Speakerphone.
Configure ENABLE_SPEAKER_EMERG to select the default audio path for emergency calls. You can select the Speakerphone or the user-selected audio.
In the Avaya Aura® environment, you can configure the parameters in System Manager. Select the Allow Unauthenticated Emergency Calls field in System Manager to enable emergency dialing from unregistered phones. When a user logs into an Avaya Aura® environment, the phone uses only the emergency numbers you configured in SMGR. If you configure the parameters in the Settings file, the phone uses the emergency phone numbers when the Avaya Aura® proxy servers are unavailable.
Avaya J100 Series IP Phones display an Emerg soft key even if the phone is unregistered or locked. The primary emergency number is called when the user presses the Emerg soft key.
Configure the following parameters for emergency dialing:
  • PHNEMERGNUM: Specifies the primary emergency number called when the user presses the Emerg soft key. You can also enable manual dialing of the emergency number.
  • ENABLE_SHOW_EMERG_SK: Specifies whether a registered phone displays the Emerg soft key and a confirmation dialog box.
  • ENABLE_SHOW_EMERG_SK_UNREG: Specifies whether an unregistered phone displays the Emerg soft key and a confirmation dialog box.
  • ENABLE_SPEAKER_EMERG: Specifies the default audio path for emergency calls.
If the SIP proxy supports emergency dialing, you can enable emergency calling in the overall SIP solution to make emergency calls when the phone is locked or the user is not logged in.
Note:
  • You must configure the Emergency Number on the SIP gateway, or the user cannot dial it during a failover.
  • When you toggle between server environments, you must reset the phone to the default values. For example, reset the phone to its default values when changing from an Avaya Aura® environment to a third-party call control.
  • In an IP Office environment, the auto-generated Settings file does not configure the Emerg soft key. Users must dial the emergency number manually.
